His music is set to enter the Billboard charts again

XXXTentacion‘s music has seen a huge 1,603% rise in sales after the rapper passed away on Monday (June 18).

He was shot and killed by two men in a dark SUV as he left a motorcycle shop in Fort Lauderdale. He later died in hospital.

Now, according to Nielsen Music, the rapper’s music has seen a huge 1,603% increase in sales. The total comes from his combined album and digital song sales, which grew from 2,000 sold on June 17 to 33,000 copies sold on June 18.

His biggest-selling song ‘Sad!’ sold 6,000 copies, marking a 1,143% rise compared to its sales a day earlier, which were just under 1,000 copies.

Spotify was criticised yesterday (June 19) after adding XXXTentacion‘s music to one of the streaming service’s most popular playlists in the wake of his death.

The streaming platform had previously announced plans to stop promoting artists accused of assault. XXXTentacion’s ex-girlfriend accused the rapper of assault in 2016.

His music wasn’t removed but Spotify eventually backtracked on the controversial policy, adding an XXXTentacion Essentials playlist yesterday.

Meanwhile, a memorial for the rapper in Los Angeles was shut down by police. Videos showed fans singing along to X’s songs while others showed a number of people riding around on top of a car.

Lil Gnar’s Insta story detailed images of police allegedly shutting down the memorial, with more videos posted to Twitter showing the chaos. Some attendees claim that police shot the crowds with rubber bullets.
