Five months after Katy Perry announced her pregnancy in the most epic music video, she announced she just gave birth to her first child!
Katy and her fiancé Orlando Bloom announced the news with UNICEF via an article titled «The most precious gift: A healthy child.» They welcomed a healthy baby girl named Daisy Dove Bloom on August 26.
Here’s the full statement they released:
«We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter.
But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19, many more newborn lives are at risk because of a greater lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.
As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare. In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival. Daisy Dove is Katy’s first child and Orlando’s second—he and Miranda Kerr welcomed their son, Flynn, nine years ago.
Before Katy gave birth, she opened up about how she’s always wanted to have kids. She told Australian radio show Fifi, Fev & Byron, «I was that girl, or am still that girl, that had that box, the baby clothes before there was the thought or even an Orlando Bloom.» She also said this is the perfect time to expand her family and added, «I think, definitely, everything’s changing. I wasn’t ready a couple years ago, and I did the work to get ready and now I’m really ready…It’s just time for me, and it’s the right time.»
