Amid a tumultuous 2020, Lizzo taught us to love ourselves no matter what.
Since the beginning of her career, she’s been an advocate for body positivity and normalizing, hyping up the beauty in every size, shape and color body. From her empowering songs to her day-to-day social media thoughts, Lizzo always spreads kindness and encourages her followers to love all their curves.
In honor of 2020 coming to a close, we’ve compiled our favorite times Lizzo made us feel «Good as Hell» about our bodies.
«To Every Body, with love»
Following some criticism accusing her of promoting «diet culture» after she posted a TikTok video about her 10-day juice detox journey, Lizzo shared a powerful montage showing off her body around her house.
«Your body is perfectly yours, even if it ain’t perfect to anybody else,» she narrated the clip over soothing flute music. «If you only knew the complexities your body possesses, you would be so proud of it. I’m so proud of you for making it this far in a society that gives us a head start into self-loathing, that hands us a dysmorphic mirror and leaves us desperate to catch up with who we think we should be. I’ve spent so much time in this body and I am no different than you — still struggling to find balance, still trying to mend my relationship with food, my anxiety, my back fat. It gets easier. I’ve spent my hardest days trying to love me.»

Plus-Size Appreciation Day
«Oh it’s ‘PLUS SIZE APPRECIATION DAY’?» Lizzo captioned a stunning clip of herself posing at a photo shoot on Oct. 6.
«Ima say it like this… s/o to my size 18+ beauties out there,» she continued. «We getting our visibility and FINALLY brands are beginning to catch up to how fly we’ve always been. We are fashion, we are sex symbols, we are IT. There’s a long road to inclusivity and we won’t stop until we there. Till then… shake yo belly, love handles, and jiggly thighs, love ur double chin and wear them bikinis cus u a bad bitch!»

Her Vogue cover
The «Truth Hurts» star graced the October cover of Vogue this year, where she opened up about the «commercialized» nature of the #bodypositive movement, and how everyone feels beholden to feel empowered by it. And while Lizzo supports the empowerment, she explained that there are still girls who feel left out in a campaign meant to make people feel included.
«Now, you look at the hashtag ‘body positive,’ and you see smaller-framed girls, curvier girls. Lotta white girls,» she said. «And I feel no ways about that, because inclusivity is what my message is always about. I’m glad that this conversation is being included in the mainstream narrative. What I don’t like is how the people that this term was created for are not benefiting from it. Girls with back fat, girls with bellies that hang, girls with thighs that aren’t separated, that overlap. Girls with stretch marks. You know, girls who are in the 18-plus club. They need to be benefiting from…the mainstream effect of body positivity now. But with everything that goes mainstream, it gets changed. It gets — you know, it gets made acceptable.»
«I think it’s lazy for me to just say I’m body positive at this point. It’s easy. I would like to be body-normative,» she continued. «I want to normalize my body. And not just be like, ‘Ooh, look at this cool movement. Being fat is body positive.’ No, being fat is normal. I think now, I owe it to the people who started this to not just stop here. We have to make people uncomfortable again, so that we can continue to change. Change is always uncomfortable, right?»

Feelin’ Herself on the ‘Gram
Lizzo is no stranger to a sexy selfie. The star is always promoting body confidence on Instagram by sharing photos of herself in bikinis, lingerie and more.
«Sick of bein this sexy tbh,» she shared in a particularly sultry clip in which she’s seen in black lacy underwear and a sheer top, swaying her hips while enjoying some wine.

Lizzo is her own damn soulmate, and in June she called on the Fab Five from Netflix’s Queer Eye to help gas herself up in the self-love anthem.
«I get flowers every Sunday / I’mma marry me one day,» she sings in the Cuz I Love You track, as Bobby Berk officiates Lizzo’s wedding to herself in the animated lyric video.
Summer Body Love
Lizzo lived her best hot girl summer despite the pandemic, and took to Instagram in May to share a seductive, twerk-filled video in the swimming pool.
«Go look in the mirror. That body *is* your summer body. Now twerk w me ho!» she captioned the fun bikini video, encouraging her followers to let go of pressure to lose weight as the summer season approached.

Looking at yourself in the mirror can be a time of self-criticism, but the «Juice» singer helped her fans shift their mindsets with a encouraging mantra. «Every time u walk by a mirror I want u to hear this,» Lizzo captioned a video checking herself out.

A fiery TikTok clapping back at haters in June shows a montage of the Grammy winner exercising, trying on lingerie and showing off her curves in a swimsuit. «So I’ve been working out consistently for the last five years,» she said, «and it may come as a surprise to some of y’all that I’m not working out to have your ideal body type. I’m working out to have my ideal body type. And you know what type that is? None of your f–king business. Because I am beautiful, I am strong, I do my job and I stay on my job.»
«So next time you want to come to somebody and judge them — whether they drink kale smoothies or eat McDonald’s or work out or not work out — how ‘bout you look at your own f–king self and worry about your own goddamn body,» she continued. «Because health is not just determined on what you look like on the outside. After Lizzo realized that she gets tagged in every video of a plus-size girl, she made her own TikTok gushing over the beautiful ladies on the app. «To all the people putting my name in the comments, thank you! Because you know what? If every time you see a big girl on this app loving on herself, putting herself out there and being confident and loving her body, you think of me or think she looks like me, b—h, that is a what? Compliment!» she said.
«That means I’m out here doing what I’m supposed to be doing,» she continued. «Letting you b—hes know that next time you try to make fun of a woman for her body or her size, that b—h, we’re out here and we don’t give a f–k! We’re confident, and we’re bad b—hes and we’re cover stars and yeah, we get the motherf–king views, the likes and the motherf–king clicks because we it!»
