The Chainsmokers rolled out a video in support of their latest single, “Everybody Hates Me,” and it is a neon-drenched extravaganza. Directed by Rory Kramer, it adds new depth to the song’s moody, semi-biographical lyrics which see Alex Pall and Drew Taggart struggling to come to terms with their fame. Released today (April 2), the video highlights how separate they feel from reality. Opening with them driving in an open-top Jeep, they race through a tunnel while Drew sings the lyrics in the passenger seat.

In another scene, they reach a party where Alex wanders through a haunting group of party-goers while his partner stands underwater in a pool. Both scenes highlight the loneliness and division they feel from society. Meanwhile, they and a full band are seen performing in an open warehouse. As the track reaches its pinnacle, they douse a car in gasoline and burn it down while their performance space also ignites in flames.

Striking and moody, the “Everybody Hates Me” video offers some insight into how the pair are dealing with stardom. The song joins the previously released “Sick Boy” and “You Owe Me” on their new album. Last month they opened up to Billboard about plans to gradually release the project by unveiling one song from the LP every month through 2018.

The release schedule draws parallels to how they began their rebrand with new music every month in 2015 and could revolutionize how albums are rolled out in a digital age. So far, they have not quite managed to recapture the magic of “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down” or “Paris” this year, but every release is a step in the right direction. The duo also recently teamed up with Apple Music to unveil a docu-series called The Chainsmokers – Memories, which can be viewed here. Give the video a view up top!
