Paul Walker’s father has given a rare interview, discussing the Fast and Furious actor’s death and how the incident impacted him.

“I’m pretty much a bit of a recluse,” Paul Walker Sr. told The Daily Mail at his Los Angeles home. “I don’t go out as much anymore because Paul’s death took a lot out of me.”

“I’ve got my good friends, who I stay in touch with, and they’ve been so supportive and nice to me. The best way I know how to look at it is that God just took him home. That’s the biggest comfort I can find.”

Walker Sr. added how knowing God has taken his son ‘home’ was a huge comfort, while keeping a journal, filled with things his son used to say, also helped.

“I can’t believe how profound he was when he was so young,” he said. “And they were totally original thoughts that came from him. He’d figured them out himself.

“In fact, I think he was very capable of looking inside himself. I remember he once said, and it’s one thing that I wrote down, ‘I love very deeply’ And he meant that. It’s memories like that, which help me get through the day.” Walker died in 2013 following a car crash. The Fate of the Furious, the eight film in the Fast and Furious franchise has been breaking box-office records around the world, and also marks the first since Walker died without the actor starring.

“I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see it,” the father said. “But when I did, thankfully I was surrounded by friends, some who knew Paul since when he was a little kid, and it was really wonderful.

“We all really liked it, it was a very fun movie. You know, I think Paul would’ve loved it. I can see him saying to me, ‘Dad, you gotta see it, it’s crazy.’ That’s exactly what he would’ve said.

Walker Sr. added how the team behind the film had done ‘Paul proud’, adding how he hopes “the cast all become a bunch of old, toothless men before they stop making them.
